Hi Everybody!

I’m sorry for the lack of updates- I know I promised regular posts and I haven’t kept to it. But, I do have a legitimate reason. These last few weeks everyone at Customuse has been very busy preparing for the Klaxon’s 3D printed tour. We designed, printed, and assembled Simon’s guitar and Jamie’s bass.

We had a great time designing both instruments, and are honoured to be a part of the worlds first 3D printed tour. We are also very excited to announce our guitars are one of the kind in the way they where assembled. Traditionally 3D printed guitars incorporate a wooden centre block to maintain the sustain and resonance of the guitar. So while designing these instruments we got to thinking. The sustain and resonance is amplified by woods that are harder/denser in nature, so if the material is harder then wood the sound produced should be fine. We began researching this and found that BC Rich has been producing acrylic guitars, check out Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams in Get Lucky if you’d like to see one in action. The acrylic material used is has a higher density then wood, so we started thinking. The material we use in our guitars is Nylon 12, which has density of 1.4 g/cm3, which in some cases, it depends on the type of wood, is 0.7 g/cm3 denser then the wood used in guitars.  So we decided to make the Klaxons’ instruments solid. Needleless to say our experiment paid off. The instruments sound great! If you don’t believe me check out the Klaxons during their tour- they’ll be adding more locations and dates soon. We’ll also be posting video and photos of the instruments over the next little while, so be sure to stay tuned.

Of course we would also like to give credit to the wonderful Jeremy Begoin of SP Custom, www.sp-custom.com/, who handmade the pickups used in both instruments. We highly recommend him if you’re interested in creating an amazing sound for your guitar or bass.

So that’s what’s been happening these last few weeks. Be sure to stay tuned for more exciting updates, and for more news about our expanding range of products. Also if you’re in either the UK, Europe, Mexico, Russia, or Japan be sure to try and catch the Klaxon’s on their tour and let us know what you think of our instruments!

Cheers,

Sophie
